For the Fall Semester of 2017, Elizabeth Suina was asked to co-teach a UNM School of Architecture with Francisco Uvina. This class worked in cooperation with the Indigenous Design and Planning Institute at UNM and Creative Startups to develop creative strategies of rejuvenating the main street of Zuni Pueblo while fostering a creative economy for the many independent artists from Zuni Pueblo. We are happy to announce that a product of this studio is thriving.

The Zuni Pueblo Artwalk has officially begun as a way to promote the talented artists of Zuni Pueblo. Local artists are opening their art studios and inviting guests to experience the process of creating work while getting to meet and ask questions of the artist.

Prior to the Zuni Pueblo Artwalk whole sale buyers and art galleries were the primary way in which artists sold their wares. Often, these buyers would purchase the goods at low costs only to sell them elsewhere at much higher values. By allowing visitors to purchase directly from artists, the visitor is able to rest assured that the artists are receiving their fair share.

By visiting the Artwalk website information can be gathered on the artists, their products, and the Artwalk. As part of the UNM Architecture Studio, students helped to develop a system of way finding for the path, a pathway for participating artists, and a website to promote the event.
