New Life Homes - Luna Lodge

Suina Design + Architecture has a considerate amount of experience with Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), and single family and multi-family housing projects.

Luna Lodge was a 30 unit development sited on approximately 1.5 acres, and included a community room, small business incubator training kitchen, a laundry room and an office. The project involved the rehabilitation of the old motel into 14 apartments and the development of an additional 16 units on the vacant north side of the property.

The project included the use of passive heating and cooling strategies, including solar orientation, shading devices, operable windows, heat reflecting colors and increased insulation values to reduce heating and cooling energy demands. Specification of ENERGY STAR rated appliances and on-demand gas water heaters further reduced energy requirements.

In 2006 the Luna Lodge motel was documented for the Historic American Engineering Record by University of New Mexico, Historic Preservation and Regionalism students. You can view the drawings on the Library of Congress website by clicking here
