City of Albuquerque - Animal Services Center, Eastside
The Planning for the Eastside Animal Service Center began in 2007 with a long range plan and program for the City’s Animal Service facilities that involved consultants Jackson Ryan and UC Davis plus staff, professionals and volunteers.
The Design for the Eastside and Westside Animal Service Centers included both renovation and additions to the existing facilities. The Eastside plan added a new Spay Neuter Clinic, Animal Adoption Center, Administrative Center for staff and Animal Control personnel, Kennels, and Support Spaces.
The building has been programmed and designed to separate the three main functions of the facility: pet adoptions, spay/neuter and veterinary clinic, and City Animal Services. Each area has a separate entrance linked along a new corridor that clarifies function, circulation and staffing requirements.
The adoption area has been brought inside and designed according to cutting-edge ideas of a comfortable, friendly, open approach to facilitate adoptions. All of these spaces have alleviated crowding, streamlined operations and facilitated a more open relationship with the public. Back of house and kennels receive ‘temporary’ upgrades, awaiting future funding cycles.
