Broadway Vistas
Broadway Vistas is a multi-family residential infill development initiated by the non-profit neighborhood organization of South Broadway to serve as the flagship of sustainable community development in a once blighted and crime-ridden area of Albuquerque. Garrett Smith Ltd. joined United South Broadway Corporation (USBC) as co-developer in this important project to insure its integrity and viability as a truly sustainable community model. Previously, GSL’s relationship with this neighborhood had let to a number of educational and single-family projects that incrementally enriched the social and architectural fabric of the community. Broadway Vistas is an attempt to increase the scale and commitment to the neighborhood by anchoring the residential community at one of its most important and visible sites.
Residential units ranging from lofts and studios to 2- and 3-bedroom townhomes surround an interior court while anchored at the street corner by a café and patio.
The project, from the perspective of the design discipline, is an attempt to utilize ordinary, inexpensive materials in an extraordinary way so as to create a unique, sustainable environment of affordable living while densifying a critical area of the neighborhood. Materials and landscaping are treated simply and with care to enrich the site with color, detail, and vegetation.
